Pop Up Show of City Project

[FIRST YEAR] Introduction to Creative Play

Covered today:

Presenting our Finalised Models

The pop up show today was quite fantastic. All the submissions were very good. The submissions we had was: a cheese wheel town with different sections of movie genre; a mixture town of: Bikini Bottom, Sky house, Roman Colosseum, and the Empire State Building.;  a marble run showing the movement of travel in the city; a city built on music; a light show on a 2D model city; there was a video on Utopia; and a video about homelessness in the city.

But the best one there was my team (Global Warriors) China & London under global warming after 50 year roughly (only joking, all of them were good). But it was pretty good how I lit it with LED table lights with orange & blue gels over them giving them a mysterious look.

One person said 'it made them happy just looking at it'. Mark said he would give our model to his wife for Christmas which told me it was quite good.

I loved how the model turned out in the end. As the model was very good I decided to take the 3D prints home with the rainbow LED light in the lion head. It was really sad that I couldn't take the whole thing home with me because it was too big and I had nowhere to put it at home.

When making this fabulous model the was not a lot of good team work between all 5 of our team members. Chris sad half way through the development of the model that I was being very bossy. But I asked the rest of my team if I was being bossy and all of them said no. I didn't think I was being bossy either. Chris thought I was being bossy because  he didn't like me telling what to do (He will struggle in working life when an actual boss tells him what to do).

The people in my team I thought worked well as a team was David, Connor, and Me. As we made most of the model. Chris and Jordan wasn't very good helpers they were OK in the team but they weren't great. Jordan only made the 3D models (the smallest part of the city) and Chris was very slow; got distracted by his phone; was late for the lessons and didn't like working as a team most of the time.

When coming up with the idea for the model we first started with a similar concept as the light show on a 2D model city (Glenn's Team). But with a different to project 2D animation on a 3D model so it was interactive also we were going to have four cities in the four different seasons but Mark suggested to put the cities in global warming. For example, making London flooded.

It was my idea on presentation day to add a LED light attached to a battery inside the lion heads. As when I started to 3D print the lion model (at the weekend) I found out one didn't look right as it had a flat back so I 3D printed another one to put it back to back to give a 3D look on the tower.

But I had many problems with the 3D printing process at home:

1st problem: I didn't put the filament into the print head so no filament came out so that took me an hour to figure out.

2nd problem: Then when I fix that problem another problem came up where I forgot to take the plug out of the case of filament stopping the filament from coming out messing with the print head dragging it back making the print look awful. But I found this problem in the first layer of the print when it started making an awful noise making the print look like this:

3rd problem: Then I started again again everything was fine so the bed cooled down and it was time to take it off which was the hard part. It was like pulling off a brick when it's stuck with concrete (very hard) but after all the scraping I got it off.

4th Problem: So I thought for the 2nd model to take it off the bed while everything was still hot but that was a mistake. It made the model brake in half leaving part of it still stuck to the plate.

So I had to make another print to replace the broken one but while that was one printing I got an idea when looking though the back of the broken model. I put my phone touch in the back of the model and found it it looks great lit up so that's why on the day I inserted rainbow LEDs.

If Global Warriors made the model again, I would fix the feet on the Chinese tower as the we very slanted and the bottom roof wasn't straight. I would add more cotton wool to the China's side to give it more smoke and I would find a way to make the cotton wool look more like grey smoke. If my team did London's side again I would get it to look more recognisable to London as people was confused without being told it was London. If I had to choose my team all over again I would of kept Sammy from Digital Media and change Chris with David rather than Sammy like I did. But Chris was OK!!!
