The armatures in the photos are self-made from 2mm silver floral aluminium wire. Cast off pieces of
compressed wood were used for the chest and waist and to connect each limb. The wool was then
wound around the armature that had been covered initially with hot glue to start to form the
intended shape. Some of the wrapping was uneven but this was improved later, so this was a good
learning exercise especially relative to the glue, as I would later use PVA instead of hot glue as it was
softer and easier to work with.
As I was wrapping it, Phoebe Mellor, an intern came over and suggested I tried using spray glue
which was finer and softer. She also suggested that I could try using a needle felt process over the
basic wool body, but I would need to use a natural wool to ensure the felt could attach to it, as it
struggles with synthetic wool. She told me that the name of the needle felt wool is called Fleece.
This was good advice, as I was unaware of this process.
