Character walks

[Second Year] Performance and Character

Week 1 - 23rd Sept 19 (P.a.C):

Today was week one where I were briefed for the upcoming Performance and Character module. My first task of the new year is to do a minimum of three character walks before week 3 (7th Oct 19) feedback review session. I was a bit late to the session because of the cancellation of my train but I didn't miss much of the lecture . I came in when they were talking about a limp walk and different types of character walks. This module is very similar to Animation 101 & 102, could be called 'Animation 103'. This module is going to develop my character and acting performance. Which I've always wanted to do, I've want to do character 'dialogue' performance over the summer after I saw this video from animation mentor on Instagram (AS SHOWN BELOW):

Here is a LINK to Animation Mentor YouTube channel.

The audio used in this video is from my favourite TV show 'Once upon a time' from a specific Musical episode:

For the third animation performance we have to do dialogue performance as part of the module it's very similar to lip sync but totally different as it's showing dialogue through the art of performance and movement in a character. I may have to do something very similar to the Animation Mentors animation. (LINK TO BLOG POST).

Today I was given my first task in this module where I have to create 3 character walks in 2D or 3D or Stop-Motion animation. From last years exercises I decided that my stop-motion armature animations weren't very good from the feedback I got given. So I'm going to do all my character walks in Maya using the Emma or Walter 3D rigs so the animations will look more professional.

When I first came in the lecture, from being late, I was confused why they were talking about limping. **

Johny later went through the traits of a character walk, talking about how the body is shaped to show different emotions in one classic walk. The human body can be shaped as convex or concave. When the body is shaped convex it shows the emotions of confidence and maybe hunger. Also when the body is shaped concave it shows the emotions of depression and glum.

When taking walks we looked at this video (BELOW):

**At then end of the lecture Johny give me the task to do 3 character walks I didn't know what types
of walks I had to do, I should of asked but forgot with my dyslexia short term memory (annoying),

Week 1 - 24th Sept 19

I finally found out today what walks we had to do when I looked over the presentation today after Johny uploaded it.

The three character walks I will have to do is:
1) A person walking with a bad limp.
2) A young child full of the joys of life.
3) A thoughtful or rejected lover.
