Fri 2nd October 2020:
Module Brief:
This module is the second in a family of three modules: Negotiated Project - Phase One (Pre-Production), Phase Two (Production & Marketing) and this module. This module focuses on the making behind the scenes of the Negotiated Project that will encompass the production of the year long High Quality / Broadcast animation, and its associated production and marketing materials and combined them together.
This module will help students form documentation of the behind the scenes planning and marketing of the work produced concurrently in Negotiated Project modules Phase One and Two.
As a portfolio of work students will be expected to demonstrate a knowledge of and ability to apply basic design, storytelling and film editing principles and techniques to communicate the journey of the project. The ‘Making of’ will act as supporting document to the overall Negotiated Project and as such should reflect the importance, scale and quality of work produced at Level 6 of the programme.
A typical portfolio created over the module may consist of
- Production Bible demonstrating Project Planning, Workflows and Budgeting
- Audience facing Project Website (Wix or Blog)
- Behind the Scenes ‘Making of’ Video (or series of mini videos) [upto 10 mins]
- Marketing Materials – Teaser Trailer, Poster, Festival Strategy, Promotional use of Assets
- Festival and Social Media Strategy
Students should submit:
- Draft Production Bible demonstrating Project Planning, Workflows and Budgeting
- Branding and Title Design
- Festival/Promo Strategy Step 1
- Setup of Audience facing Project Website and Social Media (Wix or Blog)
- Poster
- Behind the Scenes ‘Making of’ Video (or series of mini videos) [upto 10 mins]

I was tasked with this assessment module today that works with two other modules (Negotiated Project – Phase One & Negotiated Project – Phase Two) for my final third year of the animation degree. Even though I have many other assignments such as the showreel/self directed brief (of Showreel & Engagement) and my dissertation with practical (of Research Project) and not a lot time to focus on all of them at the same time.
For this module, I have to develop a behind the scenes making of production bible that combines together all the pre-production, production, and the marketing stages of the Negotiated Project together.
My problem with Making of would be creating drawings for the Production Bible as my drawing skills are quite beginner in origin. I struggle coming up with my own character designs as seeing the shapes in object to develop the outline is hard for me to create so I use step by step drawings (which instructs me how to create the drawing from start to finish) to get the grasp with drawing. I will need to practise drawing to get better at this skill.
So by being in a team would make me a lot better with this module. By establishing a core team that can work well with my skillset that work efficiently together, this can help me to get the best grade out of this module.
Blog Posts:
For previous modules, like many of them I created throughout the first and second years, this university blog I tried to keep up to date contains evidence for this module. I believe that Negotiated Project Modules and Showreel & Professional Engagement module may be the only modules that I will have to write blog posts for in my final third year, as everything else will be assessed on practicals, which admittedly is something I prefer to work on. I don't think I need a casebook blog post for research project because it will be accessed on my research practical and accompanying critical text document on how I developed the practical.
Covid Safety
At the end of week one I was tasked to do a online learning module by ScreenSkills called Coronavirus Production awareness training where the test goes though the Coronavirus safety procedures in the production department. The estimated time I had to pass the ScreenSkills module is 40 minutes (to learn the information in the module) and 20 minutes (to pass the assessment test), to pass the test I would need to get more than 80% of the questions correct.
On the 13th October, I took this module/test and went though all the questions. By the end of the test I found out I only got 3 questions wrong but that was enough to pass the test get this certificate that's valid for 6 months:
