MAF - Day Four (Mum Pass: Part 2)

[Semester 2] Animation Event

No Dogs or Italians Allowed

The first shift of the day was to scan all the passes & tickets for this screening. But as I didn’t want to wait for 1hr 10mins for it, I chose to have a look at what all the fuss was about the film. The animation interested me as Luigi’s Grandson travels back in time to revisit his family history. But after sitting in there for a few minute (10mins max), I started to feel bored as the animation was in another language and I couldn’t keep up with the story. Also, three latecomers came into the dark cinema, not being able to find seats, started to sit on the stairs. So, I got up and offered my seats and the ones either side of me, as I wasn’t really invested into the animation.

Set in the early 20th century and chronicling the lives of the Ughetto family in Northern Italy, the
Ughettos dream of a better life abroad. Legend has it that Luigi Ughetto crossed the Alps starting a
new life in France, thus changing the destiny of his beloved family forever. His grandson travels back in time through the magic of animation to revisit his family history.

VR Immersive Experience

Synthesis

Synthesis is a poetic Virtual Reality installation which takes you into the world of Walter Gardner, an old painter who loses himself in the unending process of his next masterpiece. Only when he accepts his hopeless situation, can he look at the world through new eyes. In a society focused on performance we are confronted almost daily with questions like: Am I good enough? Do I matter? Do I add anything to this world? People are always so busy worrying about their place in the world that they never wonder about what life can give them. Synthesis follows Gardner’s journey to a new, liberating worldview. Enjoying the sun, clouds and wind, he rediscovers himself and his passion in painting.

Meet The Puppets: Mackinnon & Saunders

Mackinnon & Saunders at 30

After finishing my VR shift my mum wanted to take picture of the Mackinnon & Saunders at 30 talk Pinocchio puppets. I talked to Peter Saunders and asked him for a picture with him. Then I talked to Ian Mackinnon and also had a picture with him. Then I left the room and remembered I could give my business card to Mackinnon & Saunders, so I went back in to give my card to Peter Saunders. Afterwards, I asked Peter Saunders I he could sign my Festival Volunteer pass.
