Screenings and Learning

[FIRST YEAR] Animation Context

Covered today:

The Four Stages of Learning:

After last week's session on learning the pioneers of animation & film-making,  this week we focused on The Three Phases of Learning and The Four Stages of Learning.

The latter, Four Stages of Learning are as follows

Unconscious Incompetence
You don't know that you don't know how to do something.

Conscious Incompetence
You know that you don't know how to do something and it bothers you.

Conscious Competence
You know that you know how to do something and it takes effort.

Unconscious Competence
You know how to do something and it is second nature; you rock at it.

Approaches to Learning
The Three Phases of Learning are as follows:

Dependence = Pedagogy (My stage of learning as a child)
Interdependence Andragogy (More than likely where I am now)
Independence = Heutagogy (Where I need to be at)

Learning about these phases showed to myself and classmates what our experience of university was going to be like in terms of how we are going to be developed a thinkers. Essentially, we were shown what learner level we should aim to be at by the end of our university experience.

Expert in the Room
Told we were doing a expert in the room presentation.

Moon Tides

If the moon had oceans would there be tides?
Begun big discussion what would happen.

The Mystery Hat

You only have the to know slightly
more than the others around you
to become the expert in the room…

You will be given an unusual and
random word or phrase.

Your task is to use that word or phrase
as a starting point for research and
see where it leads you.

Conduct deep research on that area
Hint: Not just Google search!

Present the findings effectively.

I don’t know where you are going to

go….., but you are going to go…

1. Identify the origins of word or
phrase. Harvard

2. Find a piece of visual work that
epitomises that concept. Harvard

3. Using your specific skill set create a
piece of work based on the

research using your skill set.

•  Prepare a 2 minute presentation
with visuals to help explain the
research journey and how you
arrived at the work you produced.
Use Power point or create a PDF.

•  Show the epitome and the work
you created.

•  Use images and text
